Tough time for Team SA at FINA Women’s Water Polo WC
The national women’s water polo team finished seventh at the at the 16th edition of the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, held between August 12 and 17.

In the previous World Cup held in Singapore,SA managed an eighth place.
Eight nations took part in the show-piece in Russia, with the US emerging as eventual champions following their 10-6 final win against Australia.
Spain, China, Hungary and Russia were the other participants.
National goalkeeper, Anke Jacobs from Boksburg, says the team’s campaign was a success despite the low finish.
“We improved at every international tournament we take part in. We also achieved one of our goals of beating Singapore whom we realistically set out to beat before the tournament.”
Team SA’s sole victory against Singapore finished 11-6 and Jacobs believes the sport is gradually growing in the country.
“I would like for the sport to get more exposure in our country, but I think it’s on its way up,” said the 26-year-old.
“I think when the results reflect our growing success all will fall into place, and more people will know and follow the sport.
“The team is working hard to be among the best and we’re getting there despite our limited resources compared to the leading nations in the sport.”
Next for team SA is a home three Test series against a British team at St Stithians College in December, followed by an Eight Nations tournament in May.
