Soccer captains’ end-of-season musings

With the Easterns Senior Premier Football League season having come to an end, the Advertiser had a chat with the captains of the two local soccer sides, about their thoughts on their respective teams’ season.

Both skippers, Evan Partridge (EP) of CBC Old Boys and Matthew Cooley (MC) of Boksburg Football Club have something in common apart from wearing the armband: they both believe that their sides will be back stronger, come next season.

Partridge says that, despite the challenging campaign, they remain proud of their run this year.

Boksburg and CBC finished on 19 points each on the log, and with an identical goal difference.

Their final standings see CBC sitting on sixth position and Boksburg on seventh, with the former edging it on the goals scored column.

EP: ”It’s been a long and tough season for the boys, but we’re proud of our finish. We battled through several injuries to key players, but still managed a respectable mid-table finish.

”Stepping up a league was always going to be a challenge, especially considering we are a largely social team against sides who train regularly.

”We’d have liked a stronger Cup run but, unfortunately, it didn’t pan out that way.

”The lads can’t wait for next season.”

EP’s counterpart meanwhile, vows that fans can expect a new and improved Blues outfit.

MC: ”Yes, the season has come and gone. All I can say is that it was a tough campaign; we did our best with the number of players we had and, considering we were missing a number of players due to injury.

”But, next year will be the turn around and Boksburg will be reborn.”
