Liebenberg, Grachev talk the talk but who will walk the walk?
An exciting fight card for Golden Gloves’ latest Silver Salvo boxing showpiece, on Saturday, August 9, was announced at Emperors Palace on Tuesday, August 5.
The five-bout bill, which includes a mix of international fighters, is headlined by the much-anticipated bout between Ryno Liebenberg and Russian international Denis Grachev. The two will be in a 12-round battle for the vacant WBC Light-Heavyweight Silver Belt.
“They should’ve called this tournament Guy Fawks because we’re going to see fireworks,” declared Golden Gloves boss Rodney Berman, before outlining what’s in line for the winner of the WBC title.
“A lot is on the line for Denis and Ryno, because the winner of the WBC title will go on and defend it in Monte Carlo on October 25,” he said.
The two fighters were then asked to give their predictions for their clash, with both promising to knock each other out.
Asked if he can beat his Russian counterpart, Liebenberg said: “Can I beat Denis? Of course I can beat him, I’m not a boxer I’m a puncher and come fight night I’m going to knock his teeth out!”
There is no way that that is going to happen, responded the more reserved Grachev.
“I see you talk a lot but there’s a difference between boxing and talking, I’m going to knock you out!”
The night’s second title clash will see Thabo Sonjica square off against Roli Gasca from the Philippines in their IBO Junior Featherweight World Title. – @SabeloBoksburg
