Safety a priority for Woodlands Pre-Primary students

Students from Woodlands Pre-Primary School recently enjoyed an educational visit from well-known Johannesburg entertainer, ‘Mr ADT’ Darrin McDowall, who taught them home safety skills in a fun and entertaining way.

The show is a complementary service offered by ADT Security to pre-primary and primary schools, focusing on important topics which include bullying, home robberies, keeping our belongings safe, being alert, stranger danger and respecting our fellow South Africans.

Other topics also covered, include what is good touching and bad touching, how to use panic alarm buttons, never to open the door to a stranger, and the importance of knowing a parent’s contact details and other emergency numbers (such as the number for their security company and the South African Police Services).

“Unfortunately, in South Africa there is no escape from conversations about crime,” says Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT Central.

“Children are never too young to be educated and made aware, in a non-threatening manner, of the dangers that exist in our society. They need to be empowered to be able to protect themselves in a dangerous situation.”

Humphrey says that McDowall has a fun, friendly way of addressing these pertinent issues.

“He has found the perfect balance, as the show keeps the children informed and entertained while reinforcing valuable safety tips.

The shows take place at local schools which are hosted free of charge by ADT.
