Family spokesperson Michael Kotaan says the mother attempted to take the child out of the car before he was dragged, hanging from the seatbelt out of the hijacked car, from Reiger Park, to Boksburg.
“She pleaded with the suspects to allow her to take the child out of his car seat. As she tried pulling him, the buckle got jammed, and the hijackers closed the door and sped off,” explains Kotaan.
Kotaan says there are clues as to who the suspects are, and they are said to be members of the community of Reiger Park.
He also adds that the mother will undergo counseling.
“We are hoping to arrange counseling for her in this week because this is a very traumatic experience,” he adds.
Kotaan says a memorial service will be held for Taegrin on Thursday, July 24 at the Reiger Park Civic Centre at 7pm. See original story.

I left Benoni 4 months ago to live in the U.K. I didn’t leave by choice I have serious family issues I have to deal with here. I missed home so badly i still do but when I read the horror stories coming out of my beloved home town I’m not so sorry anymore and that’s really sad xxx
Of course she would have tried! She would have given her own life! Bring back the death penalty for monsters such as these. Really a painful reminder of the degradation and danger we live with everyday.
I think it should be a lesson for all hijackers die risk wat daarmee gepaard gaan I wound say justice because the moment that person enter prison he demand his rights while the family still live with the greave and questions for the rest of their life.
This is cruel and heart wrenching, the justice system is failing us. The death penalty should be brought back. My heart goes out to this family it is a nightmare. South africans need to unite and work together to get these monsters of the streets or this country is doomed.
ek hoop as hul die goed vang gee hul hul sommer vir die Reiger Park gemeenskap dat n onskuldige kindjie so moes sterf is hart verskeurend wil nie eers begin weet hoe daai ouers moet voel nie my hart gaan uit na jul toe!!!!
My heart goes out to chantel, elwin and the rest of the family…. i cannot begin to imagine what those parents are going through , but i just want them to trust in God and hold onto Him.I really think that government should bring back the death penalty because for sure they go to jail but then our taxes pay for them to get a meal everyday access to healthcare and other necessities , it just seems so unfair to me as little Taegrin will never be with his family again.
Have you ever heard of such a horror killing in any other country than South Africa???? Only in Africa you get people – no not people, they are rubbish with black heartless feelings -bring back the death penalty, but these monsters needs to die a slow death tide to a 4×4 for 100km’s to be dragged over a mountain. My heart bleeds for this the Morris Family – may God comfort you.
After hearing about this tragedy, I can do nothing but obssess over what that poor baby boys last thoughts may have been. Also about what his family must be going through, because this is their devastating reality. But I truly believe that God will never let his death be in vain. I think mums all over the world are reminded as to how fragile our little ones lives are. If anything, Taegrin has made us more grateful for our babies. His death will always serve as a reminder that a relationship between a mother and Child is priceless. I pray every minute for his families ability to cope with their loss. One day this mother and Child will reunite. God will never forsake the existence of a beautiful and pure relationship between him and his mother to end in this way. No hijacker will ever take that away from them. As for those monsters that did this, they will be found, that’s for sure. Just place a wanted alive reward on their heads, and some greedy comrade will spill the proverbial beans. That’s the kind of world we live in. lets start a fund in his name, to offer this reward, to catch his killers.
This is so heartbreaking to teagrins parents please accept my deepest symphaty may god strenghten you and keep you in his hands love joan
My deepest sympathy to the Taegrin’s family. Please find comfort in the Lord’s hand. This is very sad, how long are we going to leave like this.Thinking that I am a mother too it breaks my heart.Bring back death penalty.May the poor boy’s soul R.I.P
