Most of us get paid after the 25th of each month, which results in being “in arrears” with the metro on paper, but in actual fact we are not.
We pay the full amount for our electricity and water that is due every month, but it appears as if we are not compliant.
We do not pay later than 28th, but have received numerous final notices and been charged for it!
You cannot query it over the phone, as there is no answer, so you have to take leave to visit the council building. But this is also a fruitless exercise, as the officials are quite unhelpful.
When you finally get someone to assist you, they find nothing wrong on the account and just scrap your name off a list. Even when I pay from the bank link for Ekurhuleni, I get the next month’s statement claiming I was in arrears.
I actually feel the metro is on a witch hunt when it comes to their regular payers, because they cannot get hold of those who owe them the R12-billion.
I am really so annoyed with this situation and, therefore, I am glad someone finally is taking the metro to task.
