What you think determins who you are

Gail Keevy from Freeway Park writes,

In reaction to the article published regarding making a subconscious choice regarding voting in the 2014 elections: it is true that what you do is determined by who you are.

And who you are is determined by what you put into your mind. That means that your behaviour is actually already predetermined by your thoughts.

What we do when we want to change our behaviour is to say that we must actually change our behaviour.

We say, for example: “I will not throw something at you again when I am angry”, or “I promise I will put away my clothes tomorrow”.

We usually mean it, but we go away and repeat the same behaviour over and over again.

This is because we are trying to treat the symptom (behaviour) instead of the cause (thoughts).

We have seldom ( if ever) been taught how to change our thoughts.

The Editor of the Advertiser wrote a very important article after the elections, ending with hopefully “voters in general won’t base a factual decision on their gut instinct without at least exploring the data objectively first”.

This what we all hope for and wish could be the case.

But until people learn how to change their thoughts (gut instinct), they will never experience a different outcome. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is said to be the first sign of insanity.

No, it is actually the first sign that we have no idea at all of how to change!

I am involved in teaching people how to change their thoughts. What a sense of achievement people experience when they have understood the importance of the subconscious mind with all its memories and how to work with it to bring about change.

The area of Cognitive Neuroscience is relatively new and it is exciting to see how current research is supporting the above.

Each of us has such untapped potential in our ability to think and process information and ultimately change our behaviour, if only we are shown how!
