Despite threats to boycott the general elections during a recent service delivery protests, residents of the area rethought their plan of action as they turned up in their hundreds for the general elections.
The ward 33 Clr Hillary Coke concedes that her party, the DA, admits that it didn’t receive much support from Comet residents.
Coke says that the opposition party still has a long way to go to win the confidence of the black majority in Comet and the informal settlements.
“We still have to change the voter perception that the opposition party will bring back Apartheid,” says Coke.
She vows to continue working for the betterment of the lives of the residents of Comet and the informal settlements in her ward.
The ANC received a 55.7 per cent support of the total vote in Ekurhuleni.
