DA Provincial Legislature happy with strong Boksburg support
As this was a National and Provincial general election, regardless of the fact that the DA won Boksburg, the ANC is still in the majority in the Ekurhuleni metro and will continue to be so until the next Local Government election in 2016.

This is according to Janet Semple, member of the DA Provincial Legislature in Gauteng.
“The DA is very pleased that an increased number of Boksburg residents chose to support the DA in these elections so much so that we increased our share of the vote in Gauteng from 22 per cent in 2009, to 31 per cent on May 7,” says Semple.
“We thank the voters for their support and want to assure them that our DA councillors will continue fighting for better service delivery for all the residents we represent.”
According to her, results have shown that residents of the informal settlements in Boksburg have started making the DA their party of choice.
“However, we are aware that in order for the DA to win Ekurhuleni in 2016, we will have to convince more voters of our core offer of cutting corruption, creating jobs and delivering better services for all the residents of the metro.”
“In the coming term of office, I can assure DA supporters that as a member of the Provincial Legislature in Gauteng, I will be fighting for more jobs, better schools and hospitals, and more equitable housing opportunities that will improve the living conditions of all the people in Boksburg,” emphasises Semple.
In the specific case of Ward 33, where the DA won by 0.41 per cent, new ward boundaries which saw the inclusion of Jerusalem informal settlement made the going tough.
“As this was a National and Provincial deflection, voters may have had different priorities when they voted this time around in Ward 33.
“We are certain that through the hard work of our elected representative in the ward, Clr Hilary Coke, the residents will continue to back the DA.”
