What happens if refuse isn’t removed?

What happens with the wheelie bins if the refuse is not collected on the given day stipulated by the metro?

This is the question raised by Boksburg North resident, Collin Hardouin, since the metro has already not complied to remove refuse on the scheduled days.

According to Hardouin, all bags were placed on the pavements by the residents in Boksburg North on Tuesday, April 29, but the bags were never collected.

“The next day the refuse had been removed from the bags and scattered on the ground.

“When they (the collectors) came around the next day, we were told that it was not the refuse collector’s problem.

“It would not have been a problem if the refuse was collected on the day that Ekurhuleni had stipulated.”

This made Hardouin wonder what would happen when the wheelie bins come into effect beginning May.

His concern is when the refuse will be removed in cases where it is not removed on the day scheduled.

“Will our bins be collected the following day or do we wait a full week? Bins left on the pavement overnight have a good chance of being stolen and replaced at the cost of R509.58 a bin. This collection problem needs to be sorted out or stolen bins should be replaced by Ekurhuleni.”
