Carjacking a growing problem

Carjacking has become one of the most prevalent crimes in many parts of Boksburg.

The SAPS are, therefore, urging motorists to be more cautious.

One of the latest victims in the surge of carjacking parted with his Mercedes Benz worth R280 000 on March 9.

The driver from Boksburg South told the police that while he was in his driveway waiting for the gate to open, two men driving a Golf parked behind him and one of them pointed a firearm at him.

The robbers forced him out of the vehicle and then drove away with his vehicle, while the other drove off in the Golf.

Another man’s vehicle was hijacked in his driveway along Church Street, near the Boksburg Lake, on March 15.

Two men armed with firearms approached him and forced him out of his Toyota Camry. They then drove away with his vehicle.

In another carjacking, robbers confronted a Sunward Park man while he was in his driveway and stole his vehicle.

According to the police, the first step to avoiding an attack is to stay alert at all times and be aware of your surroundings. The most likely places for a carjacking are in residential driveways, high crime areas, intersections, isolated spaces like a parking lot and be cautious when in a traffic jam.
