Metro suggests speed rumbles on death road

Scores of children from Balmoral College have been killed while crossing Wit Deep and Main Reef roads in Witfield, to get to the school.

For years Balmoral College, the ward councillor Hilary Coke, and residents of the nearby informal settlements, have been pleading with the metro, to take measures that are effective in preventing the road injuries and deaths on these roads.

Responding to the concerned residents’ pleas, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, says preliminary investigation regarding traffic calming on both roads have been conducted.

“It was discovered that both roads fall into category class that does not permit speed humps,” says Gadebe.

“Our technical team has suggested that we install speed rumbles, which are minor speed humps, and traffic signage in the area.”
