Complaints pour in against police station

Serious complaints against sleeping on the job and incompetent Reiger Park police officers continue to pour in.

The complaints include criticism of lacklustre performance, being indifferent to the community’s crime problem and poor crime investigations.

According to a resident of the area, who asked not to be named, police at the station are failing to treat their clients with care, dignity and respect.

“As residents of Reiger Park, the treatment we have been receiving leaves us nothing short of wanting to go to war against the police,” says the complainant.

“I speak from my own experience at the police station and, hence, I try by all means not to have any dealings with the local police for that matter.

“The simplest thing of certifying an ID copy can turn into an argument with the ever-so-intelligent police officers at the station.

The complainant claim that the police blatantly refuse to attend to any coloured person who cannot speak in English.

“When you give them your statement, they write their own garbage. From all my frustrations, I can easily write a book on the complete and utter incompetence of the police officers in Reiger Park.

“They are only there to earn a salary, not to serve the citizens, who pay for their salaries.

The complainant appeals to the police management to attend to these problems as soon as possible.

“I rest my case and waiting to see any change happening at the station.

“We are calling for a complete clean sweep, because as things stand I have no respect or trust in the SAPS.” concludes the complainant.

A few days ago, the Advertiser also received a complaint from a resident of the area, who described the service residents received from the police as “shocking”.

All complaints against the police officers were forwarded to the Brakpan SAPS Cluster Commander, Brig Wessie van der Westhuizen.

He promised that all complaints will be investigated and necessary steps will be taken against the responsible members.
