Boksburg cruise past Tembisa
The Boksburg Premier XI side bounced back from their defeat to United to secure a comfortable 79-run victory over Tembisa at Prince George Park on Sunday, February 9.
Opener Michael Holtzhausen belted 70 with Bruce McKenzie (39), Len Meyer (36), John Haywood (31) all adding on to the score to propel the home side to a substantial 237-all out in 46.1 overs.
Boksburg skipper, Meyer, who won the toss and elected to bat, was left a pleased man after the showing.
“This win is just a stepping stone and is part of our long-term plans to build a winning side in the next two to three seasons. I’m happy with what I’m seeing from the boys and I’m very happy of the win,” explained the skipper.
“We are trying to get a squad together. A number of our senior guys, including former captain, Marius Labuschagne, left the side to play for the Promotion League team so we’re still a work in progress.”
The hometeam were without starlet Ruan du Plessis who was replaced by Niel Kuhn.
Tembisa’s Israel Hlengani finished as the day’s top bowler with figures of 3/22 in 10 overs with Holtzhausen’s 70 securing the top batsman title.
The visitors were dealt a blow early on in their chase with their openers of Enoch Makamo and Israel Hlengani combining for 46 before fellow top orders Zwelo Ntsimbini and Mpho Mashigo being dismissed for a duck respectively.
Middle-order batsman, Kabelo Takalo, finished as his side’s top run-scorer with 36, but no significant additions were made after his dismissal to threaten Boksburg’s target of 238.
Tembisa went on to post a total of 158 after 44 overs to hand the homeside the victory.
Kempton now host Tembisa, while Boksburg make the trip to Springs to take on Kwa-Thema.
