According to government, in South Africa, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a big problem, even though most of the infections can be cured.
STI/Condom Week is aimed not only at reducing the spread of STI, but also at curbing the spread of HIV/Aids.
A recent report by Student Village reveals that students are not getting tested regularly for STD’s.
The report also indicates that 76 per cent of South African students are sexually active, with 70 per cent of the surveyed students only using condoms to avoid pregnancy and not HIV/Aids.
Government says the fear of being stigmatised is still one of the many reasons why people are reluctant to seek medical treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
