Policeman wanted over killing of fellow officer

A Reiger Park police woman, Const Cynthia Monkwe, who hails from Limpopo, was allegedly stabbed to death on Monday, February 3, by her boyfriend.

The boyfriend apparently serves as a police officer at the same station.

Monkwe was found near her home.

The victim was last seen in the suspect’s vehicle that was parked at the crime scene.

Spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, says Monkwe died from three fatal stab wounds.

According to Phathela, it seems the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle in which Monkwe was stabbed.

“It appears he drove towards Heidelberg, before the vehicle ran out of petrol, and he dumped it on the side of N3 freeway, where it was later discovered.

“Blood stains were found inside the vehicle, but the murder weapon was not found.”

Monkwe’s memorial service was held at the Reiger Park Civic Centre on Wednesday morning, February 5.

She will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 8, in Limpopo.

The police confirmed that the couple often fought and the deceased opened several criminal cases against the suspect. Monkwe would subsequently withdraw the cases.

“Because of his unacceptable behaviour, he was barred from using a gun even when he was on duty,” explains Phathela.

A case of murder was registered at the Reiger Park police station.
