Thirteen families have been left homeless after a fire burnt down their shacks in Angelo informal settlement, on Sunday night, January 26.

According to for Ward 33 Clr Hillary Coke, a total of 13 shacks had been destroyed by the fire.

She mentioned that the disaster management team has already helped the affected families with food, adding that the affected families will also be provided with material to rebuild their homes.

A local church provided temporally accommodation for the families who have been left homeless.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown, at this point, although Coke suspects unattended lighting or heating appliances.

Following the devastating incident, Coke urges people living in informal settlements to take care of their lighting and heating appliances to avoid incidents such as this.
