Ekurhuleni provides healthcare cards to military heroes
The military liberation struggle veterans in Ekurhuleni have welcomed news that by February next year, the metro will provide them with health access cards set to give them an opportunity to consult identified private doctors and specialists.
Health and Social Development MMC, Clr Makhosazana Twala-Maluleke, told veterans that preserving their health meant preserving the wisdom needed by this generation.
“In February the first 250 cards will be issued by the executive mayor to the veterans. This is in addition to the dedicated services provided to the veterans by the Reiger Park Clinic,” Clr Twala-Maluleke says.
Currently veterans are transported from anywhere in Ekurhuleni to the clinic.
“In our efforts to extend the health service, we have agreements with about 14 doctors in the region of Ekurhuleni, who are ready to accept the health access cards and claim the expenses from the municipality,” she adds.
One of the ways that will be pursued in February is the formation of agricultural cooperatives.
Already six tractors are available to begin the cooperative project.
One of the veterans Phama Madonsela expressed joy at the health access card, saying most of the veterans’ health is frail and this initiative will go a long way.
“We are very excited and grateful about the initiative,” he says.
