Fangzz set to defend title in April
EFC Africa heavyweight champion Ruan “Fangzz” Potts from Boksburg could face Vandam Mbuyi in his first title defence in April should the latter overcome Brendon Groenewald at EFC 27 next month.
EFC 27 will take place at Carnival City on Thursday, February 27.
Potts, who has returned to training from the festive recess, will be defending his gold for the first time since beating fierce rival Andrew van Zyl in their heavyweight title match which headlined EFC 26 in early December last year.
Asked what fans could expect from him this year, Fangzz said he was looking forward to his upcoming fights and added that fans are part of the reason he always gives his best inside the hexagon.
“I’m doing it for the fans. They are part of the reason why we put in the hard work to entertain them,” said the champion.
Describing the emotions of defeating Van Zyl in last month’s title bout, Potts says: “I did it for my son more than anything else. He came up to me before the match and told me not to lose. Those are the sort of things that motivate you. I put in a lot of time to prepare for that crucial match.”
Potts regards Normal Wessels as the toughest opponent he has faced so far.
“Wessels is very technical. He is out of competition at the moment but I think he will be very hard to beat when he returns.”
Wessels became EFC Africa’s first heavyweight champion at EFC Africa 5.
