According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, a customer at a livestock-selling business ran out of the business when he realised that three armed men were about to rob the premises.
“He flagged down a passing metro police patrol vehicle and the two officers drove to the business after calling for back up.
“The suspects pointed the firearms at the approaching officers, but ran when they heard sirens from back-up officers,” says Kgasago.
He says that the three suspects were arrested and two firearms seized.
“A firearm discarded by one of the suspects in the bushes was not found, and the fourth suspect, in Toyota sedan getaway vehicle, managed to escape.”
The trio, who are all in their mid-20s, were charged with possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, pointing firearms at officers and attempted robbery.
They were taken to the Dawn Park police station.
