Become a leader by 2020

Aspiring and established business owners flocked to Emperors Palace on December 2, for the Leadership2020 Seminar.

The seminar is part of a five-day festival hosted by the Ekurhuleni municipality in partnership with Leadership2020, a positive change movement and non-profit organisation aiming to positively impact 100 000 young people in the country by the year 2020.

The movement is led by Sibusiso Leope, popularly known as DJ Sbu, a Forbes Africa Person of the Year 2013 award nominee, as well as radio DJ and record label co-owner.

Leope works daily with a team of entrepreneurs to motivate and positively uplift the mindsets and attitudes of young South Africans.

He encourages young people not to look to government for opportunities, but to rather be able to identify opportunities around them.

In partnership with the Ekurhuleni municipality, inspirational and motivational talks were given at the seminar by various international and local leaders, including JT Foxx, who is known worldwide as a serial entrepreneur.

Foxx is also considered to be one of the top speakers, strategists and the number one coach in business, wealth and real estate.

He encouraged guests to have passion, be competent and confident, which is the key to being successful.

“You do not obtain success by chance; it is a choice backed by action,” said Foxx.

Stedman Graham, popularly known as television talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s boyfriend, is chairman and CEO of a management and marketing consulting company.

Graham has also authored 10 books, including two New York Times bestsellers.

He spoke about one’s identity and being free from slavery of the mind.

“Invest in yourself, and become the best you can be,” he said.

Marlon Smith, known as the “High-Tech Motivator”, has facilitated leadership programmes in 45 states and 14 countries throughout the world.

He is also a recognised author of the international best-seller, Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Smith reiterated Foxx’s words: “Your success is your choice, so what you do today will dictate where you’ll be tomorrow.”

He also taught the audience an acronym, REPOH, on how to create a good habit and change their mindsets.

Regarding REPOH, he explained it as follows, in a nutshell: “Repetition is when you do something over and over, then it becomes ‘easy’, and a ‘pleasure’, then you start doing it more ‘often’, and it eventually becomes a ‘habit’.”

Attending the seminar were Teboho Mafodi, Lehlohonolo Moerane and Hector Motivator.
