Copper thieves arrested

Two men were arrested by members of the Boksburg North SAPS, on November 28.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, the members were performing routine patrols along Atlas Road, in Anderbolt, when they saw a bakkie carrying steel.

“They stopped the vehicle and noticed that it carried a lot of burned copper,” she says.

“The police asked for receipts and proof of where they bought it, but the two occupants of the vehicle failed to provide it.”

Coetzer adds that the suspects were arrested by the two constables and taken to the Boksburg North Police Station.

“The copper weighed in at 446kgs, and the value is about R23 000.”

The men will appear in court soon.
