South Africans should play their part to fight abuse
Brand South Africa has urged all South Africans to play their part in the fight against the abuse of women and children during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, which started on November 25.

Brand South Africa is the official marketing agency of South Africa, with a mandate to build the country’s brand reputation, in order to improve its global competitiveness abroad. Its aim is also to build pride and patriotism among South Africans, in order to contribute to social cohesion and nation brand ambassadorship.
The 2013, 16 Days of Activism Campaign will be held under the theme: “From peace in the home to peace in the world: Let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women”.
Brand South Africa director of strategic marketing and communications, Wendy Tlou, says the campaign should run for 365 days in our country.
“It is a basic human right to have a sense of safety and security. It is our duty as citizens of our country, young or old, men or women, to play our part to build a non-violent and secure nation,” she says.
“The violation of women through violence and abuse undermines their basic human rights. We call on you to speak out and encourage victims to seek help,” says Tlou.
Tlou urges all men to support women and children and play their part through active opposition of abuse.
“As South Africa prepares to mark 20 years of democracy, there are many achievements and milestones that we can celebrate as a nation.
“We must begin to count as a success the way in which we treat women and children,” she adds.
The campaign takes place annually from November 25 to December 10.
