CBC cruise past Tembisa
CBC Old Boys produced a solid performance to emphatically beat Tembisa by nine wickets in their Premier League match on Sunday, November 24, at the CBC ground.
Opening batsmen Wesley Coulentianos and Henning du Plooy shared a 126-run partnership to all but win the game for the hometeam following Jean Rossouw’s brilliant bowling spell.
CBC suffocated the visitors to restrict them to 136 all-out. Rossouw finished with 5/17 after 6.5 overs with teammate Peter Trewick taking 3/29.
Coulentianos and du Plooy repaid their bowlers with the former smashing 72 before the partnership came to an end.
Du Plooy’s unbeaten 54 helped steer CBC to victory, leaving Tembisa rooted at the bottom of the log.
The hosts were initially slow in their run chase with Tembisa fast bowler Khanyiso Makubalo restricting Coulentianos and du Plooy to defensive blocks, much to the approval of his teammates who shared “Come on Khanye”, “Yes Khanye” chants.
The flood gates, however, opened after lunchtime with the CBC opening pair lifting the tempo and exploiting gaps on the pitch to pile-up the boundaries and close-in on the 137-target.
Tembisa started positively behind the bat with skipper, Zwelo Ntsimbini’s lowly one sandwiched by Enock Makamo’s 31 and Curtley Waves’ 41 to provide a solid platform for the visitors to build on.

Tight bowling from the CBC bowlers resulted in an otherwise chaotic batting display from Tembisa’s middle and tail-end batters.
Waves’ dismissal was followed by ducks for middle-orders Mpho Mashego and Vincent Topotsa.
Stoffel Matjila (one) and Busani Sithole (four) added five before another dismissal for zero, this time it was Kabelo Takalo, summed up Tembisa’s day.
The two teams have had contrasting performances in the season thus far, with Tembisa occupying the last spot on the log and CBC fighting it out for the summit with Kempton Park and Benoni Northerns.
