According to Vanessa Jackson, spokesperson for ER24, the accident occurred just after 5am, when the vehicle rolled over.
“When the paramedics arrived on scene they found that the vehicle had crashed into the perimeter fence of a local business and then landed on its roof in the water of an overflow canal below,” she says.
They found two young male occupants of the vehicle, both believed to be in their 30s.
“One man had died as a result of the injuries he had sustained, while the other was fortunate to have survived the collision with only moderate injuries,” Jackson says.
“The Jaws of Life needed to be used to cut away the wreckage, to remove the surviving man, and he was later transported to Tambo Memorial hospital for further care.”
Investigators are still in the process of determining what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
