In the forum’s monthly meeting, which was recently held, it was agreed that 30 CPF foot patrollers will be trained and registered to assist in the crime-fighting initiatives of sector one.
“These foot patrollers will be utilised during the day and the current 18 patrollers, who are residents of sector one, will continue to do patrolling during the night and also help out where needed,” says Denise Curry, the CPF chairperson.
The CPF members and patrollers utilise their own vehicles, funds and time to assist in the crime fighting activities of the CPF.
Curry and deputy chairperson, Simon Kops, took three days out of their busy schedule to raise funds towards assisting in the CPF sector one to fight crime.
“Five CPF boards have been erected in the sector one areas which were sponsored by affected businesses.
“Also, approximately 50 CPF patroller boards have been put up at community members’ houses at a cost of R200 per CPF board,” says Curry.
Curry adds that all the funds raised by the CPF will be used to establish a Repeater Network for the patroller communication radios and to purchase more radios.
“We have already done a lot of work and we still have a lot of work to do to make our streets safer,” says Curry.
“We have adopted a zero-tolerance towards crime. We have already seen the drop in crime which is a clear indication that we are doing something right,” she adds.
The CPF sector one is looking for management as well as patroller representation in Atlasville, Bardene, Bartlett and Witkoppie Ridge.
