M-Net Cares shows care for Marias Orphanage

Mama Maria’s Orphanage in Windmill Park received a makeover and a mini media centre with six computers, from M-Net Cares on Wednesday, October 23.

M-Net Cares is the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) vehicle of M-Net, comprised of M-Net staff volunteers who are involved in community initiatives.

Staff members write motivation letters for their nominated charities of choice and the winning charity is assessed and assisted in their area of need.

“After conducting a needs analysis, we found that Mama Maria’s Orphanage had the most work to be done, as the building is very old and the walls needed to be fixed,” says Tsêpang Naheng, CSI coordinator.

“We gave the building a few cosmetic changes, such as painting it blue, because we like to leave our mark,” explains Naheng.

Not a single eye was dry as the children from the home sang a few songs for guests before the unveiling of the renovated building.

Sibongile Nkosi is the M-Net staff member who motivated Mama Maria’s orphanage to receive assistance.

“I want to thank God for Maria, because she could’ve chosen to do something else with her life, but she chose to help these children,” said Nkosi.

“I am crying not because I am sad, but because I have joy in my heart and I want to thank M-Net and CSI, “said Nkosi.

M-Net CSI manager, Palesa Xorile explained why the orphanage was also given computers for the children.

“For children to grow they need a stimulating environment, and we want them to feel important,” she said.

Xorile added that the computers would be for both educational and entertainment purposes.

Maria also received a brand new laptop to continue her sponsored computer lessons.
