Guns and Hoses Challenge proves to be a tough test
The Boksburg North SAPS together with some members of Ekurhuleni’s EMPD, and staff from the Boksburg Fire Station, took part in the first Guns and Hoses Challenge.
The challenge drew inspiration from the Police and Fire Games that lost steam over the years.
“The aim of the event was to get the three departments to work together and it proved to be a successful first attempt,” says Lieut Coetzer, Boksburg North SAPS communications officer.
The challenge between the three departments consisted of a series of exercises including leg presses, dead lifts, pull-ups, push-ups, squats with a medicine ball (10 kg), kettle bell swings (20 kg) and box jumps.
Evan du Toit received the trophy on behalf of the EMS for coming in first while Lena Bosman received the trophy on behalf of the EMPD for being the group with the best spirit during the event.
Markus from EMPD received the prize for the best male performer for the day, and Lieut Juanita Coetzer for the best female performer for the day.
“These judges did very well in controlling and keeping the members from the departments safe and injury free,” says Coetzer.
“Emergency Services also had their members on duty to insure the safety of all those who participated in the event.”
