Another Witfield home destroyed in fire
A couple was hospitalised with minimal injuries after surviving a fire that destroyed their home on September 8.
According to Ekurhuleni’s Emergency Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, the fire appears to have started in one of the bedrooms.
“The house fire incident was reported in Quantrill Street,” says Ntladi.
“On arrival of the first pump, the house was well alight and the roof had already collapsed inside.”
He says the firefighters immediately began to knock down and soon after extinguished the fire.
“A back-up pump from Primrose arrived to give extra assistance and water supply was established from the nearby fire hydrant to avoid any flow interruption,” he says.
“The house has six rooms in total and basically all were destroyed by the fire.”
According to Ntladi, the man living in the house suffered superficial burns after opening the door to one of the bedrooms, forcing the flames to flash onto his face.
“Due to the risk involving facial burns, we encouraged the couple to go to hospital for medical check-up in case they had inhaled heat and fumes, which could have detrimental effect to the airway,” says Ntladi.
