Hundreds fined for violating traffic laws

Hundreds of motorists received fines this week for contravening the rules of the road.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, 313 fines were issued to motorists for driving without their valid card driver’s licence.

Four vehicles were impounded for not being roadworthy and 109 fines were issued for registration and licensing.

“Some 100 fines were issued for moving violations and a further 133 fines were issued for parking and stopping.”

He adds that 176 pedestrians and motorists were stopped and searched in the CBD, industrial sites, suburbs and at informal settlements.

Mokheseng says that 56 fines were issued to special motorists, for driving without their Professional Drivers Permits (PRDP).

There were 19 accidents in the area, including one where serious injuries were sustained, five where slight injuries occurred, 13 which resulted in damage only and one where a municipal vehicle was involved.
