E-track to break down crime in Windmill Park

The Dawn Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) has asked for assistance from Evolutionary Tracking Solutions to fight crime in Windmill Park, extension 16.

According to Henry Mohala, chairperson of the CPF, there has been numerous complaints from the community in the newly-developed area, about hijackings, stealing of car radios, car tyres and house break-ins.

“We have launched a CPF, and are trying to recruit as many members as we can so they can do regular patrols, assisting in crime prevention and detection,” he says.

Trevor Ackerman, director of Evolutionary Tracking Solutions, says due to the increase of crime in the area, some of the residents joined hands in the fight against it and approached e-Track for assistance.

“Patrolling is done on foot by members calling themselves Task Force 16 (TF16), and there is always someone on standby to assist in any emergency in the area,” he says.

“Currently, they have six two-way radios that they are using between approximately 15 active patrollers. Other means of communication is Whatsapp and Zello, which are free applications.”

Ackerman says e-Track will assist the community by responding to emergency situations, as well as patrolling in and around the area with their vehicles.

E-Track will also be sponsoring a noticeboard at the entrance to extention 16, stating that the area has a community watch in place.

The board will also display the emergency number for the TF16.

Ackerman says e-Track is also looking to supply the community with a mobile panic button system where the emergency number gets an sms, stating that a member is in trouble.

“Our control room will be notified and we will react as needed to assist this member. It is basically a short code (*120*800#) saved as a speed dial on the community’s phone, when activated, four people will receive an sms stating that the person needs help,” he says.

The 24/7 emergency number that the community can use for any information or contact numbers is 072 637 4639.
