Phillips proud of tough week
Local kickboxing club Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) President and Great North 2 tournament director, Shihan Raymond Phillips, had an action packed week, recently.
It started with the EFC event with JP “Tinkerbell” Kruger, Cedric Doyle and Chimmy van Winkel.
This was followed by the hosting of one of the biggest kickboxing events in Africa – Great North 2 – sanctioned by South African Amature Kickboxing Association (SAAKA), held at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.
Fighters came from all around Southern Africa and as far as the Cape province, Limpopo (Thabazimbi), Mpumalanga (Barberton, Nelspruit and other areas), all of Gauteng, Sedibeng and North-West.
It was action from start to finish and all fighters did their utmost to take home gold.
Raymond Phillips said he was very pleased and blessed with the success of the annual event.
Kickboxing is one of the most demanding contact sports, and it takes a lot of courage to step onto the Tatami floor or into the ring.
Raymond said that he learned an important saying from a old Japanese instructor that holds true for all his martial arts students: “It’s not about winning, but in the taking part”.
