This follows the recent unexpected passing of the late of Nkosiphendule Kolisile, who occupied the position until his death.
According to Gauteng Premier’s spokesperson, Thebe Mohatle, the new MEC occupied the position of mayor in Boksburg from 1995 until 2000.
He later worked for various departments within the Gauteng Provincial Government.
“In 2009, Xayiya joined the Gauteng Provincial Legislature where he occupied several positions, including chairman of the Road and Transport Sub-Committee.
“He was also a member of the Oversight Committee on the Office of the Premier in the Legislature (OCPOL),” says Mohatle.
“Outside of his official duties, Xayiya is a committed community activist who readily provides social support to HIV/Aids projects and matric educational projects.”
To add to his accolades, the MEC has also occupied the position of co-chairperson of the Aids Consortium.
The appointment comes into effect immediately, and the Xayiya is expected to continue on the departed MEC’s projects.
Mokonyane welcomes MEC Xayiya on the Gauteng Executive Council.
“May I, therefore, on behalf of the Gauteng Executive Council, and the citizens of this smart province, wish him success in executing his obligations to serving the province.”
