Hospital lends a hand to feeding others
For Mandela Day, staff from Sunward Park Hospital, along with Tsebo, Servest and Lancet Laboratory, helped the Springs Care Centre to pack food to contribute towards the Stop Hunger project.
“The Springs Care Centre provided us with four basic dehydrated components: rice, vegetables, soya and a vitamin supplement, including plastic bags with cooking instructions, all the necessary equipment and staff to give guidance and strict health and quality control,” says Sanet Bigalke, marketing manager for Sunward Park Hospital.
She adds that when water is added to a pack, it becomed a meal that will feed six people.
“It was so much fun, and staff were coming and going to and from their units to enable as many staff as possible to be a part of this great project.”
She adds that they exceeded their expectation.
“Our goal was to have 67 people involved during the packing, but the sincerity and compassion of our team led towards more than 93 staff members being involved during the three hours,” says Bigalke.
During this time, 572 food packs were packed, which will provide 3 432 people with a meal.
Six boxes consisting of 1 728 meals were donated towards Elspark Primary School’s feeding scheme.
