Hannelie is ready to make an impact in people’s lives
Hannelie van der Merwe is the second female head of the Boksburg Lions Club, and says she is poised to take the club to another level.
Born and raised in Boksburg in 1959, the generous Hannelie went to Westwood Primary School, and matriculated at Boksburg Commercial High School, now called Oosterlig Hoërskool.
“I joined the Lions Club because I always wanted to help others,” says Hannelie.
She has been a member of the Lions Club for more than two decades.
As the President of a charitable organisation, her goals include introducing new activities to the club and making people understand what the organisation stands for.
She has been happily married to Peter van der Merwe for the past 12 years.
Hannelie and Peter live with their grandchildren Donovan, Michael and Marie-lee in Kempton Park.
Hannelie is the daughter of the late Lesley and Marthie Minnaar, and is from a family of two boys and two girls.
Her father was an insurance broker, and her mother worked for the South African First Aid League.
Hannelie’s hobbies include reading and watching old movies, and her favorite food is steak and kidney pie.
However, her doctor advised her to cut down on meat, and she is now only indulging in fruits and yogurts.
