Run to save an animal

The Boksburg SPCA will be hosting an animal fun run at the Cardinals’ Baseball Club next to the Boksburg City Stadium on Sunday, September 1.

The SPCA is inviting all motorcycle clubs, fanatics and families to participate in its second annual animal run.

“The support was amazing last year, with more than 900 bikes from more than 20 clubs taking part in the run.

“More than 1 000 people attended the event, raising a well-needed R100 000,” says organiser, Chris Badenhorst.

“We look forward to an even bigger and better event this year, with over 1 200 bikes and more than 1 500 people. The hosting of the Animal Run is to create and raise awareness for the SPCA and the plight of animals. All proceeds and donations will be put to very good use.

“The event is in aid of SPCA branches on the East Rand, which are Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Germiston, Kempton Park, Nigel and Springs, and we hope to collect as much pet food, pet blankets and donations to support this worthwhile cause,” explains Badenhorst.

According to Badenhorst, the motorcycle convoy will start from Checkers-Hyper Edenvale at 9am and end at Cardinals’ Baseball Club at the Boksburg City Stadium, on Jubilee Road, Boksburg.

The convoy will be marshaled by road rangers and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, who due to metro restrictions, have declared that no off-road bikes will be allowed to take part in the ride this year.

“An entrance fee of R20 will get you into the grounds at Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, which will be complete with a beer tent, a variety of food stalls, a flea market, a Puzey STX 200 Motard raffle, a mechanical bull, and 100 lucky-draw prizes.

“Motorcycle and car dealers will showcase their goods on display, and SPCA Animal Run 2013 T-shirts and clothes, and metal badges will be available on the day,” Badenhorst says.

“We are delighted that Jeremy and Jacqui Mansfield will be joining us this year at the end venue, and although this day is all about the animals, it’s not just a day for the animals, and we ask that animals are not to be brought to the end venue.”
