Sprint Cup and Champ of Champs coming up

The Rock Raceway circuit will be a hive of activity when Oval clubs come together.

The Rock Raceway circuit will be a hive of activity when Oval clubs come together and duke it out for the very first Oval Circuit Speed Weekend Sprint Cup Challenge and Champ of Champs Event, on August 9 and 10.

Clubs from around South Africa: Richards Bay, Welkom, Klerksdorp, Rietkuil Pretoria, Vereeniging and The Rock Raceway are expected to compete.

On the Friday, all clubs and their competitors will have an opportunity to set fastest lap records in each class in the Sprint Cup Challenge.

There will be a floating trophy awarded in each class category for the fastest lap record set, and every driver will also be representing their club.

The objective is to see which club will set the most records at The Rock Raceway.

Each driver will also qualify for the Champ of Champs event that will be held the next day.

Great excitement is brewing amongst the competitors and we are expecting record attendance from all the clubs and classes over the weekend.

Classes that will be in action are:

  • Kids In Racing SA – Ninja Karts 60cc – ages three – 12 years old
  • 100cc Micro Karts – 12 years old and up.
  • 125cc Shifter Karts
  • 1600 Stock Rods Mechanical Masters Dash 4 Cash
  • 1660 Saloons
  • 2.1 Modified Saloons
  • Pinto Class
  • Retro Rod Class
  • Hot Rod Class (Rotaries)
  • Super Saloons
  • Formula 2 Midgets Open Wheelers
  • V8 Flexis
  • V8 Thunder Sprints open Wheelers

On the Friday, the gates will open for practise and documentation from 10am to 1.30pm for all competitors.

Lap records and qualifying for all classes for the Champ of Champs event, for Saturday, will take place from 2pm to 8pm. Gates will open for spectators on the Friday, at noon.
