Fighting cancer one cupcake at a time

Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness of the early warning signs of childhood cancer, as well as to raise funds to support children and their families, who have been diagnosed with childhood cancer.

They will once again be embracing and celebrating National Cupcake Day on September 28.

National Cupcake Day is an easy, and by far the sweetest, way to help the fight against cancer, one delicious cupcake at a time.

It also forms part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, during which time Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer will visit hospitals and offer cupcake workshops for the patients as a special treat.

Awareness is, thus, also created around the early cancer warning signs for early detection to save lives.

Various other events will be held at over 40 venues across the country.

Mugg & Bean has in addition launched a red velvet cupcake, and for each cupcake sold, they will donate R1 to children with cancer.

The first National Cupcake Day in 2012 was a resounding success, raising over R500 000 to help yet another family with a child living with cancer.

During this day, over 100 children received assistance from the fund, as well as 12 other charities, including The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust, Choc, Cansa, Reach for a Dream and The Sunflower Fund.

Funds raised are used to assist the children by either paying for medical treatment, school fees and uniforms, food hampers and vouchers or travelling costs to the hospitals.
