
Three men appeared in Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on May 18 in connection with the kidnapping a 30-year-old man in Jansen Park on May 2.
The victim, who reported the matter at the Boksburg North Police Station on May 3, told police he left his residence to buy vegetables at a premises in Jansen Park.
According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, upon arrival at the premises the victim was allegedly lured upstairs under the impression that he could buy vegetables there.
“He was allegedly assaulted upstairs while three men demanded a ransom of about R1-million. He also told police his hands were bound and he was then taken to a location in Heidelberg, where he managed to escape,” Ramaube said.
The victim said the suspects stole his white BMW and valuables.
On May 6, the police tracing team – Det WO Simon Madonsela, Det Sgt Sibusiso Ndlela, Det Sgt Jack Chauke, Det Sgt Amokelani Baloyi, Det Sgt Rivalani Chavalala and Det Matshaba – under the command of Capt Sanna Leburu, made a breakthrough and arrested three men.
Ramaube said the first suspect (43) was arrested in Beyers Park and the second (49) in Heidelberg.
A third suspect (24), who was arrested in Springs, led the tracing team to Van Dyk Park, where the victim?s BMW and his valuables were found.
The three suspects were arrested and charged with kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.
Two of the suspects were released on bail and the third remanded in custody after their court appearance.
The Boksburg North SAPS station commander, Col Khumbulani Mbatha, applauded the commendable work done by the officers.
