#Level4: Ekurhuleni Health MMC urges residents to act responsibly

People with symptoms must contact or visit the Ekurhuleni testing station and seek medical help

As steps are being carefully taken to ease the country out of strict lockdown measures imposed on citizens, the Ekurhuleni MMC for Health and Social Development, Nomadlozi Nkosi, is calling on all residents of Ekurhuleni to continue taking safety precautions.

When the country entered a level four lockdown at the beginning of May, some restrictions were eased, but others such as the sale of alcohol, cigarette and Lotto tickets ran out of luck.

In an exclusive interview with the Advertiser, Nkosi warned that failure by citizens to remain cautious and protect themselves against the virus as we progress to the lower levels will result in a catastrophic situation.

“People need to understand that the invisible enemy is not gone, it is still here, ravaging our communities.

“We have to take extra precautions, and if there is no compelling reason for you to travel, then remain at home. When in public places, such as when we go shopping, travelling in public transport and at work, wear masks, practise social distancing, avoid crowds, and remember when you get home wash your clothes, clean your shoes and your reusable masks.”

The MMC urges people who have coronavirus symptoms to contact or visit the Ekurhuleni testing station and seek medical help.

“While awaiting test results, avoid contact with other people. You must self-isolate and when the results come back positive you have to be quarantined until you test negative. It’s all in our hands as residents to prevent the spread of the virus. These regulations were not created to undermine people’s rights and freedom, but to protect each other against the enemy,” said Nkosi.

In his address, President Cyril Ramaphosa encouraged people to remain at home and only go out for essential services.

From May 1, some businesses were allowed to reopen so that people could earn a living, but only a third of their workforce is allowed to return to work.

Public gatherings remain banned, travelling between provinces is still prohibited, international flights are cancelled except for repatriating citizens, and the country’s borders stay closed except for some that are only opened for exportation and importation of goods.

The country progressed to level four on May 1 .
