Vanessa Jacobs, armed response manager from a local security company, was recently named the CCIN Best Armed Response Officer of the Year in the Gauteng region.
“These types of awards are based on arrests, involvement, hours, passion, being pro-active and going the extra mile,” Vanessa told the Advertiser.
“I didn’t expect to win, but I’m extremely honoured and grateful about receiving recognition. This is more than just a job to me, It’s a calling.”
Vanessa said she won several awards and certificates throughout her career.
“But an award to me is to save a life. I’m determined to assist and serve the community,” she said.
The experienced armed response manager worked for the SAPS, Riot Unit and public policing. Then she went over to the private security sector and work in different units. She was in armed response and management.
“In my career, I also went to Afghanistan on a contract as a team leader. We protected leaders from other countries who were sent to Afghanistan,” she recalled.
When she is not fighting crime, she rescues dogs.
“I speak for those who can’t,” she said.
