These ares some of the serious crimes recently reported to the Boksburg police:
Hijacked by “Cops”
• “Police officers” hijacked a delivery truck transporting face masks and sanitiser bottle caps in Boksburg on April 11. The truck driver told the Boksburg police that at about 3pm a car which appeared to be a white Polo Vivo fitted with a police blue light signalled for him to pull over along Rondebult Road. After pulling over, one of the men, presumed to be a police officer, approached and asked him how many masks were in the boxes. He told him he had no idea. Thereupon, the so-called cop, armed with a rifle, ordered the driver to alight and show him the invoice and his permit to operate during the lockdown. Convinced that these were real police officers, the driver complied and all of a sudden the men grabbed and pushed him into another vehicle which appeared to be a Range Rover. They covered him with a blanket and drove with him in their vehicle to Esther Park, where he was dumped in Gifboom Street. The truck, worth about R3-million, is still missing. The driver’s cellphone was also stolen during the attack.
Burgled Homes and Businesses
• A resident of Sunward Park woke on April 9 to find that thieves have entered his home on Morkel Street, forced their way into the garage and stole to MBW motorcycles. Two leather jackets were also stolen during the break-in.
• Another resident of Sunward Park woke up on April 9 to find that thieves broke into his house and stole valuables items while he was still asleep. The burglars forcefully opened one of the windows to enter the property and stole a TV set, a watch, iPad and a bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky.
• In another Sunward Park case, a resident told police he woke up on April 13 to find that thieves forcefully opened one of the windows to enter his house, and stole a TV set.
• Thieves forced their way into Coconut Bar and Restaurant at 160 Commissioner Street and stole about R70 000 worth of alcohol sometime between March 25 and April 10. According to the police report, at about 9am on April 10 the complainant received a call from the neighbours informing her that the business had been burgled. She went to the property and found that burglars removed one of the doors to gain entry and helped themselves to the alcohol.
Robbed
• A motorcyclist was robbed and had his motorcycle hijacked as he was riding along Main Reef Road in Angelo informal settlement on April 10. The complainant told police he stopped at the dysfunctional traffic lights and as he was observing to see if it was safe to drive, four men approached and pushed him off the motorcycle and grabbed his bag. He ran towards the nearby filling station and called the police. The thugs took the motorcycle and went into the informal settlement. The police later arrived and he, along with the officers, entered the settlement and found a man pushing the stolen motorcycle. The man was immediately arrested.
Fake Security Officers’ Vehicle
• Members of Makopano Risk Solution have on April 11 apprehended a man they caught driving a white Ford Figo with a fake Makopano security company sticker on it. According to the police report, the security officers handed the suspect to the police, who then charged him with forgery. The motive behind using the fake sticker is unclear, but police suspect the driver was apparently using it to fool law enforcement agencies enforcing the lockdown that he was a security officer.
Stolen Car
• A Boksburg CBD resident’s car, a Toyota RunX, was stolen while parked in the parking area of his home on Market Street on April 14.
