Ninth Cansa Relay For Life one to remember

The fun-filled ninth edition of the annual Cansa Relay kicked off at 6pm on March 7 and saw over 2 800 supporters from all over Ekurhuleni and other metros converging on the Boksburg City Stadium, where they spent the whole night.

East Rand Cansa Relay For Life supporters were treated to a truly spectacular event, with fun activities ranging from live performances to night-long walks and jogs with family, friends and community around the sports field.

The annual relay’s primary aim is to raise awareness of cancer, show both survivors and caregivers that the nation is fully behind them in the fight against cancer, and to raise funds to fight the disease.

The event kicked off with a memorable and emotional opening ceremony, including the reading of the Relay Oath. This was then followed by the survivors’ and caregivers’ laps. This was thereupon followed by the teams’ opening lap.

The teams, consisting of co-workers, families and friends, continued to walk the track until sunrise. Burning candles in luminaria bags, with photos of survivors and those who lost the battle with cancer, surrounded the track.
