The two men accused of being behind the spate of armed robberies in several Boksburg areas were denied bail in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
They appeared in court for a formal bail application on February 21, but their application was opposed by the State. They were both remanded in custody for further investigations.
They were arrested on February 12 during an intelligence-driven operation by a team of Boksburg SAPS and Reiger Park detectives. One of them was nabbed in Joe Slovo informal settlement and his co-accused was arrested in Angelo informal settlement, where he was allegedly found in possession of a firearm loaded with one bullet.
The accused, who are in their 20s, made their first court appearance on February 14, facing charges for several robberies and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the gun’s serial number was filed off, and it’s believed that the weapon was used in a number of robberies in the city.
The firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it indeed had been used in other crimes. Further charges may be added.
