Boksburg Feeding Scheme continues to grow
This NPO broke away from the Brakpan branch in 2011 and due to generous donations and passionate hearts they have always been fortunate enough to assist where needed.
The Boksburg North Feeding Scheme operating in Cason Road ended 2019 on a high note and is starting with a bang in the new year.
On Fridays from 5pm a group of people gather to feed and assist numerous homeless and underprivileged people in the parking area opposite the Shoprite in Cason Street, Boksburg North.
Karin van der Merwe, a volunteer, expressed her gratefulness that Christmas 2019 was a great success due to all the sponsors that have joined them in helping the people in need.
“We were able to have a Christmas party for about 70 children at McMoo’s Party Farmyard where they had plenty of fun in a joyful and wonderful environment. They enjoyed treats and their hair and faces were painted.
“Furthermore, we had a Christmas dinner for all our families in Cason Road opposite the Shoprite Centre. There was a short service reading out of the Bible and prayer followed by food, cooldrinks and dessert,” van der Merwe said.
Van der Merwe said the group also gifted 30 children with stationery and said the children were happy and proud to go back to school.
“We could not have done this without the help of sponsors. We thank McMoo’s Party Farmyard, Kief Models, Luise Embalo, JJ and Liesel, Bottle Boys, Compro Boksburg, Raphael and Celestine and Venetia Edwards (Tattoos At Von V) for doing the face painting.
“To be able to help these people, we rely on any sort of donations. Times have unfortunately changed and the need for help, compassion and random love and assistance is growing in shocking demand.
“Due to the lack of nutrients and healthy food, and because children are also involved, the need sometimes also arises for medical attention. There is also a great need of clothing donations.”
She also appealed for donations towards an Easter lunch in April for the less fortunate.
