Post office still in dire state
“Post box renters are still exposed to the dirty and smelly conditions around the post box area. What boggles my mind is the subsequent turn of events in respect of the renovation to the post office.”
It might be a new year but the Boksburg Post Office in Leeuwpoort Street is still in a serious state of neglect in terms of general maintenance of both the building and the garden.
According to Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos, the condition of the post office has worsened.
“My continuous efforts to have the premises maintained and the vagrants removed have ground to a halt,” de Vos said.
“The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services committed in March last year in writing that the post office will be renovated in this current financial year.
“A subsequent stakeholders’ meeting was held on September 23, 2019 to kick-start the project. The meeting was attended by high-level technical staff of the post office in the build environment and property section.
“I was requested to assist with local labour and businesses to participate in the project but nothing concrete happened after the meeting was held.
“The grass and weeds have not been cut and removed. Vagrants are still living on the premises and the security guard working at night hides himself inside the building due to the danger he is exposed to overnight.
“I am failing to understand the involvement of local government in what appears to be a national issue,” he added.
The Advertiser is still awaiting for comment from the metro and SAPO.
