A love triangle row left a woman dead, and the suspect turned herself in to the police about an hour later.
According to the Reiger Park police spokesperson, Const Zanele Motaung, police received information on Saturday evening (January 18) that a woman had stabbed another woman in Joe Slovo informal settlement, Reiger Park.
Officers responded to the reports of a stabbing, and upon their arrival they found the body of 35-year-old Lungile Mtolo lying in a pool of blood.
There were stab wounds to her neck, one in the ear and another next to her breasts.
According to the police, prior to killing her rival the accused found her boyfriend with the victim.
After discovering that the woman was apparently romantically involved with her boyfriend, the accused got into a fiery row with both of them.
The confrontation turned ugly and physical and the accused allegedly used a broken bottle to stab her rival.
The accused recently made her first court appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court and was granted R1 000 bail.
The matter was postponed until March 25 for further investigation.
The police suspect that the love triangle, with its resultant jealousy over the boyfriend, was the motive for the murder, but they are investigating further.
However, the mother of the accused was quoted in a recently published article in the Sowetan that she believed her daughter killed Mtolo by mistake, adding that she was saddened by the death of Mtolo and that her daughter’s toxic relationship landed her daughter in prison after she had tried several times to make Mtolo leave her boyfriend.
