Robbery suspects nabbed thanks to CPF’s assistance

The Boksburg North station commander, Col Khumbulani Mbatha, applauded the CPF and SAPS members for their great job.

Three men are facing charges of business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition following a robbery at a butchery in Witfield, on January 8.

According to the complainant, when he was about to close his butchery he saw two men approaching him with one of them armed with a firearm.

Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Justice Ramaube said the victim ran inside the shop and hid in one of the rooms.

“It is alleged that one of the community members saw the suspects and shot one of the men. The second suspect managed to take an undisclosed amount of money from the butchery,” Ramaube said.

Ramaube said it is alleged that the second suspect took the money to the third suspect who was inside their getaway vehicle at the parking lot.

The third suspect fled the scene, leaving the second suspect.

“The second suspect who didn’t get in the vehicle was then cornered by CPF members who took him back to the butchery for the police to arrest both suspects,” Ramaube said.

The third suspect was arrested a few days later.

Ramaube said during investigations, it was discovered that one of the suspects was linked to several cases of carjacking and other business break-ins around Boksburg North.

The police recovered a 38 special revolver with live ammunition which was under the table.

The three men, aged 34, 28 and 31 appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on January 13.

They will appear again on January 21 for a formal bail application.
