Boksburg SPCA honoury life member Dan Spengler dies
A memorial service for Dan will be held at the Alan Woodrow Chapel on December 13.
The Boksburg SPCA is saddened by the death of honoury life member Dan Spengler.
Dan died on December 9.
In 2007, Dan and his deceased wife, Jenny, passionate animal lovers and lifetime supporters of the Boksburg SPCA, took over the tin collections.
A year or so later Dan and Jenny incorporated street collections into their routine. Dan was well-known throughout Boksburg for his street collections in his cowboy outfit and mask.
“After Jenny’s death, Dan’s unwavering commitment to Boksburg SPCA and the animals we care for continued in the cold of winter or the burning sun of summer, Dan was on the street with his collection tin. Their financial contribution to our society over the 12 years has been huge,” said Sue Beadon from the Boksburg SPCA.
“The Boksburg SPCA salutes a man for a life well lived, who chose to make a difference for those who have no voice, a man among men. Fly with the angels Dan and may your soul rest in peace. You will be missed by all who knew you.
“Boksburg SPCA chairperson, committee, manager and staff extend sincere condolences to his family and close friends.”
The society would like to share the following words from Nesta Jojoe Erskine for Dan: “We might not be the ones to change the world. We might not belong to the few that put a ding in the universe. We might not be something the whole world would celebrate. But in the little corners that we live, in the lives that we’ve played a part in, we should be nothing but unforgettable.”
Besides being passionate about helping animals, Dan also loved reading, sudoku and collecting shells.
Those who wish to make a small contribution in Dan’s memory can make a monetary or food donation to the Boksburg SPCA. The account details are SPCA Boksburg, ABSA, 4046388139, branch 632005, ref DAN.
