Elderly treated to early Christmas
The organisation’s weekly programme includes running, aerobics (Mondays), walks around Dawn Park and discussions (Tuesdays), preparations for sport tournaments and visits by a social worker (Wednesdays).
About 41 elderly people from Tshepo ya Sechaba, a Dawn Park non-profit organisation, were spoiled at Ocean Basket Sunward Park recently.
Ocean Basket Sunward Park opened their doors to provide a memorable and fun Christmas party for the elderly, who were treated to a full meal, cooldrinks and dessert, all for free.
Mark Repsold, Ocean Basket Sunward Park manager, said he first learnt about the organisation when they approached him to sponsor them with vouchers for their previous event.
“We donated the vouchers as well as the restaurant’s T-shirt and hats. When they approached us for the second time regarding the Christmas party, we welcomed them with warm hearts.
“We decided to give a special treat to our elderly citizens to put a smile on their faces.
“This is simply one of our ways of giving back to the community,” Repsold said.
The founder of Tshepo ya Sechaba, Cynthia Nhlapo, thanked Ocean Basket Sunward Park for their generosity.
“Not many businesses can do what Ocean Basket Sunward Park did, to allow us to host our Christmas party here for free.
“We would like to encourage other businesses to support initiates like these in future,” Nhlapo said.
Albert Mohlophe, who is part of the Tshepo ya Sechaba organisation, said he enjoyed his food and thanked Ocean Basket Sunward Park for their hospitality.
Elderly residents from across Ekurhuleni are invited to join the organisation. They meet from Monday to Wednesday at the Dawn Park Family Church, from 8am.
